The New Zealand Diploma in Social Services (Level 5) approach equips
learners with the foundational knowledge and skills to provide culturally
responsive support in social service roles. This qualification integrates a
Māori worldview, emphasising tikanga Māori (customs), Te Reo Māori
(language), and mātauranga Māori (knowledge systems) as central to
understanding and addressing the needs of individuals, whānau, and
communities. Graduates will develop competencies in effective communication, advocacy, and relationship-building, grounded in values such as manaakitanga (care and respect), whanaungatanga (connectedness), and kotahitanga (unity). This diploma prepares individuals to make
meaningful contributions in social service settings, ensuring culturally
appropriate and holistic care for diverse populations, focusing on Māori
well-being.
