The New Zealand Diploma in Social Services (Level 5) approach equips
learners with the foundational knowledge and skills to provide culturally
responsive support in social service roles. This qualification integrates a
Māori worldview, emphasising tikanga Māori (customs), Te Reo Māori
(language), and mātauranga Māori (knowledge systems) as central to
understanding and addressing the needs of individuals, whānau, and
communities. Graduates will develop competencies in effective communication, advocacy, and relationship-building, grounded in values such as manaakitanga (care and respect), whanaungatanga (connectedness), and kotahitanga (unity). This diploma prepares individuals to make
meaningful contributions in social service settings, ensuring culturally
appropriate and holistic care for diverse populations, focusing on Māori
well-being.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Kaimahi who are able to apply whanau centred approaches to Support Care services.
This qualification is intended for those looking to consolidate and further their skills and knowledge in applying whanau-centred approaches relating to the care of whanau in residential communities and facilities of home settings. Graduates will be able to demonstrate under supervision, theoretical and technical knowledge and skills relating to the delivery of health and/or social support services, based on whanau-centred models of practice.
